We are also super excited to open up a special Facebook group just for you to be able to ask questions and get support in a private group setting. You will also get weekly check in e-mails delivered right to your inbox.

My practice, as a Health Coach and in life is based upon the idea that there is no one way of eating for everyone – we are all individuals. I grew up eating based on the food pyramid, like most people, but it didn’t work for me. I never felt that great, but after changing my diet, based on the foods that worked for my body – everything changed. I learned more about this way of eating in my education at Integrative Nutrition. And many of my clients have benefited from eating based on their own bio-individual needs.

Another important aspect to overall health is the concept of Primary Foods, which describes everything around food that affects our well-being including exercise, career, creativity, spirituality and relationships. Encompassing healthy foods and healthy lifestyle changes is a whole person approach to a healthy and balanced life. In my own life having a family, busy life, high stress corporate career, and my own business – clean eating is crucial for me on a daily basis to not only get through my day but feel great in the process.

Hope to see you there!

Big Success: Vegan Night At Mellow Mushroom

Vegan night at Mellow Mushroom was held tonight in Downtown Delray Beach. Those who eat vegan or those curious about vegan eating came by to sample delicious vegan eats made fresh at Mellow Mushroom. Guest speakers, Health Coach Pam Higgins (yours truly), and Vegan Triathlete and Trainer Richard Wygand were present to speak about the benefits of eating vegan, answers questions and speak with customers.

Here’s a little of what I covered:

When going vegan, focus on eating more plants. I say this because many people start out by eating more carbohydrates and processed vegan proteins. By eating more plants including leafy greens, the rainbow of colors in produce, and root vegetables, you get a wide variety of nutrients.

A few of my favorite vegan foods are avocado, kale, sweet potato, sprouted quinoa, lentils, and pumpkin seeds. You don’t have to be vegan to eat this way, I eat these foods all of the time and many of my readers already know that I’m not vegan, but I do enjoy lots of vegan meals every week.

Remember that food is not a religion, it’s about eating what foods work best for your own body. Know that may change from time to time as well. If you are looking to figure out what foods work best for your body, contact me for a free 15-min strategy session. I work with clients who want to feed their body food that tastes amazing and works well for their bodies to achieve optimal health.

Some benefits of going vegan are:

  • lower cholesterol,
  • good for the environment,
  • good for your heart, lower heart disease rates,
  • great for cancer prevention, has also reversed cancer in many people,
  • less toxic load on your body,
  • get glowing skin,
  • more energy

Get your local produce at Delray Beach Green Market

It was a beautiful morning this past Saturday and the perfect weather to stroll through the open air green market in Delray Beach! There are so many wonderful local vendors selling fresh and delicious fruit, vegetables, eggs, seafood, meats, flowers, pasta/sauces, breads, guacamole, even pet treats!

I’m a sucker for fresh produce so I headed over to Thomas Produce stand first and picked up bananas, cucumbers, Florida navel oranges, and sweet potatoes. Everything was very fresh and I especially liked the cucumbers because they did not have the typical wax coating you see on grocery store cucumbers. I cut those up in spears to use for dipping in hummus. Thomas Produce is located at Glades and 441, how’s that for local!

Next stop was Harvest Time market that was selling lovely strawberries grown locally at their Lake Worth farm. I was excited to see their sign that advertised U-Pick Strawberries, yum! I’ll be making a special trip there during season which is November thru May.

Green Market season across Palm Beach county is October – May. Be sure to visit your local vendors and purchase their special offerings. It’s a great way to meet the people who are providing your local produce and unique foods and crafts. Talk to them and show your appreciation by purchasing their products.

Restaurant Review: DIG Delray

My husband and I went to DIG for my birthday dinner. I love anything local and organic so DIG, which stands for “Doing It Green” is my kind of place.

We began with the seared sea scallop appetizer, I did not take a picture but it was two giant sea scallops on a bed of spinach with roasted tomatoes on the side. After discovering my newfound love for scallops, I knew I had to try restaurant prepared scallops again and these were cooked perfectly! Read more
